About this event
And we are back ! Back on our original weekend . Welcome to the 2025 Waterford Hills Vintage Race Weekend.
Race at one of the oldest tracks in North America. Established in 1958 and racing ever since. While much has changed and improved over the years, our format is tried and true.
3 sprint races over 2 days. Track announcers, Victory laps, Spectators. We are blessed with high quality weekend volunteer staff everywhere. From the corners, grid, rescue, they are all top notch and happy to have you here. Many of the same folks who serve at the Detroit Grand Prix are on station at Vintage weekend. Even our tower staff is freindly ( provided you behave,, )
We are looking forward to a fun vintage focused weekend event for all. As always, we strive to be an easy user friendly event to have fun all weekend. We keep a light schedule when off track with only one social event on Saturday night - A steak dinner, semi open bar, with trophys and awards. Having fun on track is the focus - simply an old school race weekend.
AND NOW, A SPECIAL ONE TIME OFFER !! . Previous entrants of the Vintage event can earn a quick and easy discount to our already agreeable entry fee. For every NEW TO WATERFORD VINTAGE weekend racer you entice to attend, you can earn $40.00 off for each - maximum of 3, which is $120.00 . The NEW entrant also receivs a $50. credit off their entry. ( max 1) . Waterford drivers earn only the referral fee ( even if it's your first time at Vintage) Waterford members cannot refer other Waterford members . Enter the event now, and start inviting folks. Remember, unique to our event, you are not charged until arrival at registration, simply provide us the driver names in advance via email or a phone call and we will apply the applicable discount ;.. The not so fIne print. No cash value. Only applies to the 2025 Vintage event. All referral discounts and first time discounts are valid upon entry at arrival & registration of all parties. No show = loss of that credit ( fair is fair )
For previous entrants, please note there are some policy updates, changes and polite reminders. Be sure to read everything no matter how painful it is !.
We refer to race classings as GRIDS, as to try and avoid the confusion of " group" which is often car classing in most all Vintage race bodies. Just tell us your race group class in your membership club, and we will class your car to the appropriate grid. .Some of the new classings MAY cause confusion. If so, just contact us and we will see it thru.
As a reminder, Friday will be practice & qualifying, Saturday 2 races per group and Sunday 1 race per group. Should track conditions warrant (including weather) , the schedule will simply roll forward ( example Friday into Sat, Sat into Sunday
We have opened up race grids to welcome more " modern era" race cars using the " Vintage, Historic, and Classic" monikers. This is openly borrowed from Varac. Other groups do this as well, and besides opening the door for more cars and racers, it affords us more abilty to offer " period correct" race grids. While it may be confusing for some :" where do i fit? " again, no worries, We can fix any entry to the correct grid, Just enter. Example would be the two vintage closed wheel groups. Slower cars over the weekend will be classed down ( ex :356 drum brakes ) while faster cars will class up ( 356 disc brakes ) .
We welcome novices and first time visitors with a special track orientation on Thursday evening. It's a great event for novice and veteran racer alike. Friday, first time vistors are treated to a special drive around session with experienced racers. Many former and current racers hang around all day to help get folks up to speed and comfy on track. Waterford is tight, narrow, and twisty. We make great efforts to make sure first time folks get up to speed and comfy as much as we can.
Volunteers if here, please note, there will be a separate sign up online on Motorsportsreg.
NOTE ! Again, Some very polite UPDATES AND REMINDERS. Note that by entering, you are agreeing to be aware of and abide by all changes and updates.
Please note Wednesday is for event staff load in ONLY. Racer team load in begins on Thursday at 9 am. Please note Thusday is a " Quiet day" . No race engines allowed , even at idle.
Many of you the track has a dB limit ,BUT Vintage carries a soundwaiver from the township for this weekend. . There is a modest sound limit. and 99% of cars fall under the limit. Loud is not always fast, great driving is fast. Rotary engines will need a muffler to achieve sould limits.
Car appearance. This is a spectator event. Show pride in your car ! The car should like like it's ready for a " Prom photo" Note that tire marks, duct tape, dents, etc are NOT Patina. Clean and shiny is expected . Respect the hobby and others on track with a great looking car. Vintage spirit means keeping it that way all weekend long. This for fun. The truest "win" is everyone loading an intact car at the end of the weekend. Rough or overdriving on track actions will not be tolerated.
As much as it pains us., POLITICS. We respect all, and expect all to respect everyone and all in return..If you wish to voice support for someone/something on your car , it shall be limted to the name only. No slogans. No anything else, epecially anything negative towards others WHY? This is to remind all, these events are to celebrate what we all share in common. Focus on the " love of the game" aspect of this hobby .. Event staff and Club Presidents also wish and deseve to enjoy themselves.by not having to contend with any political charged complaints. We start race each race day with the anthems . Lets respect and honor all of them. Always have, and always will. Let's have fun! . .
.Paddock space and excess vehicles. We have been VERY lenient in the few years past. Waterford is a very " intimate" paddock. Often a big challenge, we try to fit everyone in. YOU CAN HELP. We have shuttles, so park the tow vehicle outside after you drop all your coolers and supplies in the morning. If you have a trailer that holds more than one car, PLEASE,adopt a racer with an open trailer (or the like) to join your paddock space. Paddock space is always at a premium, and we like to fit as many in as we can. A reminder we assist with assigning paddock spaces upon your arrival. We tend to group areas by car type and race grid. .If you have a larger trailer ( over 24 ft) be kind enought give us a heads up so we can mentally plan ahead . In the event of attendance above paddock capaicty, outer paddock areas will be created. IF you camping, you are encouraged to paddock at your campspot.
Please arrive with annual tech from your sanctioning body of record. IF you do not have an annual, let us know if your car DOES NOT have an annual ahead of time so we can plan ahead to perform an inspection.
The paddock has been re-paved!!! PLEASE, do not park on the pavement with your race car or anything else, Race cars shall be parked in your grid spot. Paddock road ( pavement ) shall always remain un-congested for cars in movement, foot traffic and most importantly safety and emergency traffic need the abilty to move with ease if needed. This include flat tows. Please keep the pavement CLEAR! .
PLEASE NOTE: To make life easier on our event organizers, the dinner ticket allocation is 1 with each entry. Additional tickets are available through online registration. Same great Saturday evening dinner/social event. Also important to note, and VERY UNIQUE to the Waterford Hills Vintage Races, Competitors are not charged you until you arrive at registration. Should we amass a registration number over Vintage event paddock capacity, we will create a special paddock for the newly added race group(s) outside the paddock. Also note , if you are camping, closed wheel cars are welcome to paddock at your camping spot. A reminder sound rules for racing engines apply to the whole grounds. Also note that Waterford Members may inccur a " wait list " status. This is to leave spots open in potentialy larger groups for first time vistors to our track. VINTAGE VEHICLE REGULATIONS
GENERAL
Specific vintage vehicle regulations will be referred back to the participant’s major sanctioning bodies current rules. Where variations do exist, WHRRI will attempt to accommodate you under the rules of the sanctioning body with which you normally compete. However, such variances should be reviewed in advance to ensure proper grouping/classification (Contact whrrivintage@gmail.com) to discuss in detail. Be prepared to show proof of validity (published sanctioning body rules and log book) upon request.
OVERALL GENERAL: Body, Brakes, Chassis, Electrical, Engine, Fuel System, Suspension, Steering, Tires, Transmission and Wheels should meet the specifications of the current groups sanctioning body.
VINTAGE SAFETY EQUIPMENT
ROLL BARS
All Post War and later vehicles are required to have Roll Bars and it is highly recommended for all others. These bars must be constructed of sufficient structure and height to provide adequate protection in case of rollover; SCCA Roll Bar Standards are recommended. Any person unable to comply with this rule is requested to contact whrrivintage@gmail.com for a review of his/her case and possible dispensation. Window nets or arm restraints are mandatory.
SEAT BELTS
All cars must be equipped with an SCCA, IMSA, PSCR, USRRC, CART or NASCAR approved 5-point (minimum) driver restraint system composed of a 3" wide lap belt, anti submarine strap or straps, and 2 inch wide minimum, (3" wide strongly recommended) shoulder harness straps. Shoulder harness straps may not be attached to the same point in a "Y" configuration. All straps must be in excellent condition and securely attached to the frame, roll bar or cage, or reinforced portion of the vehicle structure. It is strongly recommended that the belt system not be more than 2 years old. All harnesses must be securely mounted preferably to a substantial frame/chassis member. Mountings to sheet metal must be suitably reinforced, e.g. 3” x 3” x 1/8” square plate or 3” diameter x 1/8” washer.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
All cars must be equipped with a dry chemical, or Halon fire extinguisher of at least 2 lbs capacity. Mounting must be secure and the extinguisher should be accessible to the driver from his normal seated position.
CUT- OFF SWITCH
An externally mounted electrical cut-off switch is highly recommended for all vehicles. Switches must deactivate all circuits with the exception of the on-board fire extinguisher (if fitted). Switches must be clearly identified by the official international symbol.
CAMERA MOUNTS
On board camera mounts must be approved at technical inspection for security and integrity. Cameras must be encircled with web strap or tie wraps to provide additional restraint for the existing screw in camera mounting system. No bungee cords allowed.
VINTAGE DRIVER SAFETY
HELMETS

The cars are the show; winning is secondary to a clean event, and no driver shall commit to a situation which leaves no margin for error – their own or another’s. Drivers found at fault in damage-causing incidents will withdraw from the event and will be placed on probation for a period of thirteen months, with notification of said probation forwarded to other sanctioning organizations via the Vintage Motorsports Council’s Infraction List. Further incidents while on probation may result in additional penalties. Any car suffering damage in an accident must be repaired and re-inspected by Scrutineering before continuing in competition. Minor/cosmetic repairs may be allowed; no car will be allowed to continue after suffering structural damage or rollover. Any action of un-sportmans like conduct , or blatantly
ignoring any flag or track policy is subject to a 2 event exclusion for future Waterford Vintage events as a mini mum. VMC penalties may be above or beyond our penalties.
FIRST-TIME VISITORS TRACK FAMILIARIZATION
First time competitors at Waterford Hills are encouraged and welcome. A Thrusday afternoon track walk , and a track familiarization and orientation session will be held Friday morning prior to open practice. We offer Friday practice and instruction service at no additional charge to help ensure a enjoyable weekend for you and your fellow entrants.
SOUND REGULATIONS
Waterford Hills is located in what is now a residential area. Many facets of the track’s operation are strictly controlled by local Township ordinances. Such restrictions include the hours of operation and sound control. Race engines may not be operated prior to 10:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. on any day. Questions of sound limitations may be directed towards the event chair.
SCRUTINEERING
Every vehicle without a current annual will be inspected and cars without an approved sticker will not be allowed on the track. The primary purpose of this inspection is to ensure that the vehicle is mechanically sound and safe for competition. Among the items to be inspected will be the roll bar, seat belts/harness/anchorages, steering linkage, brake lines, suspension battery mountings, exhaust/muffler system, brake lights, oil lines, fire extinguisher, tires and driver’s safety equipment.
Vehicles will be inspected in each competitor’s paddock space and competitors having vehicle logbooks should present them at that time. Cars must be presented in a clean condition and “ready to race.” The Chief Scrutineer is empowered to exclude any competitor for general appearance or condition.
Ensuring that the eligibility rules of this event are met will be the responsibility of each individual competitor and his fellow competitors. Only items of gross non-conformity will be noted during the technical inspection.
The entry fee will be refunded to any competitor whose vehicle fails to pass the technical inspection.
PADDOCK
Access to the paddock will be restricted to vehicular traffic only while race vehicles are on the track. There is limited space for transporters and large trailers in the paddock. This will limit competitors to the maximum of one support vehicle per entry. Please note: A support vehicle is one enclosed trailer or one vehicle (i.e., car, van, or truck). There is a designated area for tow trailers outside the paddock if they are not the support vehicles. The support vehicle sticker is required to be affixed to the actual support vehicle. NO EXCEPTIONS. Unauthorized vehicles will be removed from the paddock area. Multiple entries for one car must share one support vehicle; only one pass will be issued. We have a very crowded paddock. Please drive slowly and carefully. Remember, drivers are responsible for the actions of their crew. We thank you in advance for your past and future cooperation in helping
our paddock run smoothly. Children under 12 years of age are permitted in the paddock only if strictly supervised by an adult. Please follow rules of common courtesy and consideration to others.
NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES may be opened or consumed in the pits and paddock until the completion of the last race of the day. Crew members or guests who violate these rules will be ejected and subject to permant exclusion from any and all future Waterford events. Drivers will be responsible for the conduct of their crew at all times.

Those who wish to reserve space should check the appropriate box on the application. Note that larger tents shall be used for multiples competitors. Space will be allotted based on date of application received. Competitors requesting space will be advised of availability. Cost of tent rental will not be refundable if applicant cancels.
